Frequently Asked Questions

What is the average weight loss per week?
The average loss per week is 3-5 lbs with our program. Best results come with strict compliance to the daily protocol.

What are the best results you have seen with the program?
The number of pounds lost range from 10 pounds to more than 260 pounds! However, Dr. Morgan measures success of our patients by the number of pounds kept off during our maintenance phase, where patients learn to become accountable for the calories they consume.

How often and why do I need to come in to the office?

Our patients are required to come in weekly for an office visit. There is no question that our patients lose more weight overall and maintain their goal weight longer than other programs as a result of these meetings. Our most successful patients will tell you accountability is the key to success.

Will I lose muscle during the program?

Because this diet is Protein Sparing Modified Fasting Diet, you lose fat stores and spare muscle mass.

How does this diet affect any medications I take?
Dr. Morgan will communicate with the prescribing physician to discuss any changes that might need to be made before, during, and after each phase of the diet. After losing weight on this program, many patients find that they are able to come off of certain prescribed medications.

Can I have any outside food while participating on the diet?

Yes. During the second phase of the diet, Realimentation, patients will follow a regimented meal plan that adds grocery store foods back in to their diet.

Are there different protocols for diabetics, adolescents, and senior citizens?

Yes. Dr. Morgan will tailor a program to suit your individual needs so that you can maximize weight loss without compromising your health.

What about for some other health concerns?
Dr. Morgan also tailors individual programs for patients who have health concerns that put them at an increased risk for complications associated with being overweight. These problems include:

Hypertension
Depression
Diabetes
Gallbladder Disease
Elevated Cholesterol and Triglycerides
Gout
Joint Pain
Sleep Apnea
Fertility
Acid Reflux
Post-partum weight gain
Surgical Risks
Chronic Fatigue

Will I have to eat these foods forever?

No, but many patients choose to incorporate our supplements in to their daily lifestyle during the final maintenance phase. Our Bariatric supplements easily transition from meal replacements to healthy snacks.

Are there any benefits to doing the program with a family member or friend?

The short answer: it depends. Because we only see you once a week during your office visit, the accountability that friends and family provide can be helpful. On the other hand, sometimes loved ones can hinder your weight loss by unintentionally enabling counter-productive behavior.

How do I handle cooking for family members who are not dieting?
We know, it happens. You’re doing really well in your Bariatric program, but your family just isn’t participating. Instead of letting those around you negatively impact you, we suggest just the opposite: be proactive! We find that when one family member is making the switch to healthier eating behaviors, the entire family begins to make a positive change in their lifestyle as well.

Can I do this program after having a major medical problem?

Dr. Morgan has helped patients who have had organ transplants, heart attacks, Parkinson’s disease, Multiple Sclerosis, Cerebral Palsy, Paraplegia, cancer survivors, and numerous other illnesses. He will carefully examine your medical issues and tailor a plan to best suit your needs. Dr. Morgan will also keep your other physicians abreast of your progress and work with those physicians if necessary.

What do I do in social situations or when I'm on vacation and outside eating opportunities are inevitable?
Luckily, we don’t pretend these sorts of activities are all avoidable. Instead, the staff at Bariatric will help you plan and prepare for these temptations. Because you meet weekly with a specialist, you will quickly and repeatedly become more knowledgeable about how best to participate in these events.

I have tried numerous weight loss programs, lost weight on them, and then regained it all back when I started eating on my own again. How will this program be any different?

Unlike many of the popular diets, Bariatric does not endorse cutting one major dietary component like carbohydrates or fat. Cutting a component such as this makes the body more sensitive to its reintroduction, and weight regain is almost guaranteed. Our diet, conversely, is broken down into the perfect ratio of calories, fat, carbohydrates, and protein so that you lose weight without eliminating any of the essential elements your body needs. Bariatric also provides an excellent maintenance program, which is by far the number one predictor of keeping weight off in the long term.

What if I just want to get appetite suppressants and injections?

Diet pills and shots are not the answer to weight loss! You cannot lose and maintain your weight by using pills and shots alone! Under the supervision of a medical doctor, these methods can help aid in weight loss only when they are used in conjunction with a meal plan. If you are interested in such treatments, Dr. Morgan will determine if this is in your best interest and will monitor your progress each week.

Do you have a program for children and teenagers?

Yes! Bariatric welcomes patients of all ages. In fact, the young adult population does particularly well on this diet because, unlike many diets, it’s easy to carry with them on very busy days. Dr. Morgan will tweak our PSMF diet depending on the age of the patient to ensure its safety and effectiveness. This means the whole family can participate in a Bariatric diet together!
